Convergence in Air Purifier Technology

Many of us suffer from incessant headaches over weeks. Or we just somehow can't stop sneezing. This is so embarrassing especially when you have guests around. But did you know that the reasons behind this might be the allergens suspended in your air.

You wouldn't know if you are not told, cause they are invisible to the naked eye. These microscopic contaminants are increasingly becoming a threat to our health as the air inside our homes gets more polluted by the day. The answer to the problem may be an air purifier. The basic function of an air purifier is to clean the air of its pollutants.

Now air pollutants indoor can be of various kinds - cigarette smoke, dust, pollen, mold, pet dander, etc. An efficient air purifier would be able to deal with all these problems. There is a further reason to the use of air purifiers. Some use it to remove the odors present in air. There are several kinds of air purifiers available in the market these days, each based on a different technology and each with separate levels of efficiency. The kind of filters used range from ionizers to HEPA, from activated carbon filter to anti-bacterial filter.

However, what has been noticed over time is that no single air purifier is efficient enough to deal with all problems of polluted indoor air. While some are good against tiny particulates, so me are made for absorbing gases. The result has been that the air purifying industry is now slowly shifting towards convergence where separate technologies are being brought together to provide a complete solution to all the problems that are posed by air pollutants. A major portion of the pollutants in the air can be dealt by the HEPA purifier. It is made to filter anything above 0.3 microns which are suspended in air.

However, there are still other pollutants that can actually bypass the HEPA filter. To deal with particulates smaller than 0.3 microns an ionizer should be used in conjunction with the HEPA. We still have to deal with smokes and tiny microorganisms.

For unpleasant odors produced by gases the activated carbon filters work best as they absorb the gases in their pores. As far as microorganisms like bacteria and viruses are concerned, the purifiers coming with UV light are the best bet. The UV light alters the DNA profile inside the bacteria and viruses so that they become sterile.

So, if we are looking at complete solution for pollutant indoor air, we have to look towards convergence in air purifiers.
